A Fun and Steamy Romp Through a Mythical World

This book is good, silly fun--you can't call it clean fun, because it's not, but that obviously isn't the point of erotica--that is also an unexpectedly nuanced read. I don't read much erotic fiction. The closest I've come has been to scan the blogs that mock a certain trilogy of badly-written erotic novels by highlighting its terrible prose. Here, good writing supports the sexy scenes, and there's some pretty strong character development as well.

The best way to describe this is as fantasy erotica. The various inhabitants of this fictional realm are centaurs, mer-people, tree-people, anthropomorphic woodland creatures, and other standbys from the fantasy novel. The difference is that they're all looking for what the book calls "fun," and, since this is the internet, I'll leave that at that. But the novel certainly has a sense of humor about itself, and enjoys taking the reader through scenes that are strange and funny as well as steamy. Case in point: the Inside Out Man.

I wouldn't have picked this book up if not for a friend's glowing recommendation, but I'm glad I did. This is Wednesday Black's first novel, and if what I have read of her writing is any indication of things to come, she's an incredibly talented, versatile writer, who I'm sure will continue to publish widely both within this genre and other areas of literature.

This book was a great quick read. I actually missed my subway stop I was so engaged. I do not typically read novellas or fantasy based stories, but the erotica changed the game for me. Looking forward to reading many more like this.

Similarly, but a little differently, something in the nature of the reality in which we swim is revealed as a glove is turned inside out. The glove isn't thus revealed -- it was there to be seen or worn from the beginning, but on which hand?

That transforming act reveals something real and un seeable, something of the nature of our reality we can neither see, name, nor know beyond our experiencing it, as the lady rolls her glove off, fingers-last, ready for the other hand.

That part of our reality thus revealed, neither named nor knowable, is at the heart, in the heart, of life and is the similarly unnamed subject of How To Train Your Virgin, by Wednesday Black.

Call it Magic.

The glove-like duality of the human experience is the armature on which disparate sparkling vignettes are hung, like so many ornaments in the dark, and the utterly artificial separation of them into two realms, is the villain in this remarkable examination of the unity of life in its total immersion in the river of time.

What is revealed, and unstated, is that both realms are flowing together, one older, one younger, one grizzled, one untried, one ahead, one behind, in time, and that when one artificially separates them in the younger years, the price is death in its most horrible form -- that is to die without having truly lived.

Unique!

"The methodical analysis of musical masterpieces is an exercise that concerns both players and composers". This is what the author says in the preface to this book...So, being neither a piano player nor a composer, I should not have ordered this book! But I have, and I have waited a long time to receive it, and I don't regret it...because even if I don't have a full grasp of the content of this unique book, I will certainly learn a lot from it...And the first thing I learned is about "key relations": Tovey asks us to abandon the terms "relative major" and "relative minor", because the "keys they represent are no more closely related than the other direct relations". Many misconceptions will have to yield when one reads this great master. For example, the last works of Beethoven are the ones in which the form is popularly supposed to be broken down. Tovey teaches us that it is in those latest works that Beethoven has attained his strictest form! So, if you love the Beethoven sonatas, and if you want to understand them fully, this bar-to-bar analysis is for you, provided you have an average knowledge about tonality and harmony...But if you don't, well, this book is not recommended for you.

Raquel Ramos Barrios has a degree in Geography and History from the Universidad Complutense de Madrid, and majored in History. She also won a Premio Nacional de Defensa (A National Defence Award) in 2007. She has been Honorary Assistant in the Department of Contemporary History at the Faculty of Geography and History for several courses. She has also been teaching Contemporary History in the course of access to the University for people older than 25 and History, Art and Philosophy in several high schools. About the Author

Marco Gobetto was born in Rimini (RN, Italy) in 1967 and took his master’s degree in Electronic Engineering in 1993 at Politecnico of Turin.

He currently holds positions as Manufacturing Training Unit Manager at FIAT Sepin S.c.p.A. and Professor at the Faculty of Automotive Engineering.  He has taught courses in both Production Management and Production Processes, Safety, Organization and Management.

After having complete his University studies, he began his professional career at FIAT Auto S.p.A. in the Manufacturing Engineering Department, as part of the Style Design Manufacturing Analysis Team. From there he proceeded to the position of  Body in White Process Engineer, contributing to the production launches of two new cars in Italy and then coordinating industrialization activities in Poland for a new body in white  model.

In 1998 he moved to Ferrari S.p.A. as Body in White Plant Manager at the “Carrozzeria Scaglietti”  facility in Modena.

In 2000 he left FIAT to assume responsibility for the Manufacturing Engineering Department at Carrozzeria Bertone S.p.A. in Grugliasco (TO,, Italy).  {AU:  PLEASE CONFIRM “TO,,” IT IS OK, IT STANDS FOR “TORINO PREFECTURE” } In two years, three new models of vehicles were launched and, for the first time in Bertone history, second and third shifts in production were activated.

At the beginning of 2002 he rejoined the FIAT Group at ISVOR FIAT S.c.p.A. where he specialized in Total Productive Maintenance and Continuous Improvement training programs, following on  IVECO and FIAT Powertrain sectors. He subsequently coordinated international training initiatives for a joint venture in India between FIAT and TATA.  In 2007 he assumed responsibility for the Manufacturing, Quality and Product Development Training Area that, at the end of 2008, became the central Manufacturing Training Unit in the new training organization in FIAT, thereby contributing to all initiatives worldwide both in FIAT and Chrysler LLC with a major focus on World Class Manufacturing, the Corporate Production System.

A first-rate summary of music in ancient Egypt

This book (published by the British Museum) is the most comprehensive treatment of Egyptian music and musicians I've ever seen in one place (at least for the general reader). It uses no footnotes, but it does give a bibliography of the massive academic tomes on which it draws. Special mention is given to the use of chironomy (gestures of the hand, arm and fingers) to represent and to conduct music, to the role of music in every aspect of Egyptian life, and to the connection between the erotic and the spiritual in Egyptian thought.
Caveat lector: The Egyptians could be graphic, even pornographic, in portraying visually and verbally the relationship between music and sexuality (and between both and their ideas of spirituality). There are several illustrations and plates given in this book which qualify as pornographic in intent and in execution. Much discussed and illustrated is symbolic rather than blatant on that level, but the connections between music, idolatry and eroticism in ancient Egypt can hardly be missed - even if it's not always perfectly clear what drives the specific connections we find.
As a source on ancient music itself, my only disappointment is that Dr. Manniche's book ignores the musical scale (again, based on chironomy) reconstructed by one of her sources, the late Dr. Hans Hickmann of the Museum of Cairo.
I had no idea Dr. Manniche had written so many other books as well, though I should've guessed this would be so.
