I didn't realize when I got it that most of the patterns were in symbol/chart form but that has helped me learn how to read and follow these better. So far I have made 2 of the hats and they were both simple and came out perfect.

Fantastic Addition to the Twenty to Make Range

I love the twenty to make range of books.
They offer fantastic value for amazing
how to's.

Crocheted Beanies is a fantastic addition
to the range.

Personally I would classify them as slouchies
rather than beanies.
This shouldn't however detract from the fantastic designs
held within the book.

There is a good range in the designs and they cover
most crocheter levels from beginner up.
Some of the designs are in written format and a couple
are in chart forI had never followed a chart but even I
found it easy enough to make one of the hats
I really like this book and have already
chosen another hat to make for a friend.

I decided to make as my first project the
Filet Fun hat.mat.
I love the use of different materials, techniques
and styles to create such a varying design
of hats.

It was a really fun easy hat to make and I love the design.
I love the added touch of the flower design as well.
It adds that little something extra to the hat.

Overall this book offers amazing value for money.
You get a varied amount of designs for such a small price.
If you want to crochet a hat then
this is a fantastic book for you.

I really wanted to love this boom but I can't even read what they have written. The patterns are put down in a way that makes no sense. Really how hard is it to just write out the pattern so people can actuslly enjoy a book that would have been great.

Stories may not be magic pills that have powers to fix or heal all difficulties, but they can be a wonderful, and a more pleasant, alternative to nagging and lecturing. And sometimes ‘magic’ does happen and a story does make a difference!
Covering a range of universal behaviour, the stories are suitable for two to ten years (and the child in every adult!). Following the alphabet from A to Z, each behaviour is identified in the story title,: anxious, bullying, cranky, demanding … greedy … loud … reticent … uncooperative …whining ... and more. The stories can be worked with directly, adapted, turned into home-made picture books and puppet shows, or used as springboards for the creation of one’s own tales.
It is Susan’s third collection of therapeutic stories, her first e-collection, and her first in 'The Spoonful Series'.

A clever way to entertain and heal

I'd heard of Susan Perrow through some friends that had attended one of her wonderful storytelling workshops and through her book - Healing Stories for Challenging Behaviour. I always knew that I didn't want to address any issues my children had directly by telling them they had a problem, and informing them of how we were going to fix it. I wanted a more subtle and gentle way that wouldn't "label" the child as having a particular issue. A Spoonful of Stories naturally sounded perfect for what I wanted to do - which was to open our children's eyes in a roundabout way to tools they could use to manage any problems or issues they had in their lives.
My two girls, 9 and 7, wanted to start at "A" and every night we've made our way through the Alphabet.
Now we're at "S" and I just can't wait to tell the world how wonderful this book is! There are so many wonderful aspects about the stories - for one, they're not too long, so they're perfect for bedtime. Most importantly though, they are just enchanting for the children. They listen intently to every word and nod sagely at the end. They rarely comment at the time (probably too tired) but the next day or week they will suddenly, apropos of nothing, refer back to one of the themes of the story we read - relating it to something that happened in their day.
One of their friends is being a "Cranky Cockatoo" or the youngest will say that she was sad when she felt that she hadn't done her best work at school, but then realised she was probably being "Perfectionist Pat".
I would recommend this book to anyone who either has any concerns about their children, or perhaps wants to avoid having any!

A great collection of short stories that can be read aloud to children. Each story suits a particular issue or difficulty. I use these stories in my counselling practice and children love them. I have at least 4 of Susan Perrow's books and I can always find the story I am needing to suit a particular client. Having these collections as ebooks means that I have portability without weight.

Say Something. Feel Something. Do Something. The Top Ten Things That Are Great About FAITHFUL.

How did this book find me? I was there, hiding out in the section with thrillers, suspense, serial killers, crazed stalkers... and then I chose this lovely book. And for a while it made cynical me a bit less cynical.

Shelby and Helene are high school best friends. They wear matching bracelets. They do everything together. So when beautiful Helene is dumped by her boyfriend and wants to throw rocks through his window, Shelby reluctantly goes along and drives through the winter night. She hits a patch of ice and skids. Instead of turning into the skid (remember that from driver's ed?) she hits the brake. The car spins and collides. Shelby thinks she has died, but she suffers minor physical injuries. Helene is in a coma.

Helene is eventually moved to her home, and is thought to be the bestower of miracles, a sleeping beauty in Long Island. People line up to spend a moment in her presence, to hold her hand and perhaps be cured.

Shelby, meanwhile, is institutionalized. She stops speaking. She cuts herself. She shaves her head. She feels guilty for every bad thing that happens to others. She is convinced she causes bad things. She feels guilty and responsible for what happened to Helene.

Then one day she receives a mysterious postcard. It has a drawing and a simple message. "Say something."

Thus begins Shelby's slow climb back to life.

9. If I had to start on motherhood all over again, I would want to be exactly like Shelby's mother, who stands by her daughter through the deepest tragedies. She doesn't judge. She supports and finds beauty where others might see none. She is strong when she needs to be strong and gentle when she needs to be gentle.

If you are an Alice Hoffman fan, I'm sure you'll buy this book no matter what the reviews because you know her work. Her latest tale of redemption does not disappoint. Through a story of tragedy and sorrow, she weaves a journey that's so personal you'll come to love the main character. Shelby and Helene were best friends until one night that changed it all. What happens to the survivor is a life clouded in guilt. Shelby lives in her basement shrouded in memories and bitterness. When she finally emerges, the journey is long and mostly painful. Shelby learns about forgiveness of self and acceptance of others. Hoffman develops each character carefully and in detail. She also infuses that touch of magic for which she is famous. Dreamy and flowing, this book is a must read.

A long slow uphill climb

This is not an easy feel good light hearted read. It's a testament to how one seemingly innocent decision can lead to a life filled with regret, guilt and self punishment. I have to confess that midway through I wanted to put it down and walk away because as much as I was rooting for Shelby to let herself feel some level of happiness I was getting tired of the doom and gloom on page after page. I actually did put the book away for a couple of weeks to give myself a break from it and then when I picked it back up I found I couldn't put it down because I just couldn't let go of wanting her to get some sort of a happy ending or at least a glimpse of what a happy life could feel like. I won't spoil the ending for you but I will say reading this book is a long slow uphill climb but in the end it's worth it.
