its ok, probably more important when originally released

First of all I purchased the Kindle edition. Let me say i had this book on my wish list for some time but it was only available as a hard copy, so I was waiting for a digital edition as I am looking to have all my future book buys in the digital realm. One reason i wanted this one is I am a fan of UFO Hunters and Susan Wright was a guest on the Area 51 episode.

Positives: The book is well written, I like her style of writing it flows well and is organized- a simple thing some of the more popular authors in the genre miss. The information is presented factually though not with a sledgehammer approach. She simply states what she has researched and uncovered. Wright properly references others and does not take credit for that which she did not find herself. In fact she is quick to point out, quite often, when her calls were not returned or the conversation with those contacted was short. Therein lies the problem which defeats the premise of the book...

Negatives: The title is misleading. The introduction gives a teaser into what will be covered and sounds like it will be a great read- everything you ever wanted to know about Area 51. Then it goes a bit off course and does not get back to Area 51 for about 70 pages, or about 1/4 of the book. The reason seems to be that very little new information has been found and thus the book reads like a compendium of all that which is out there. She provides a pretty long history of Roswell, some ancient sighting mentions, a little analysis of some key figures in the UFO world, etc. This is all information which is covered elsewhere, but in all honesty this book is a bit older (1999) and the information may have been "new" when published. I couldn't help but feel let down that this was more a history book than insightful dossier on 51.

I lost steam with the book and its rehashing, but cant say it has no value. It would be a worthwhile addition to the library for reference sake or maybe a more grounded jump on point for a new reader. While the whole topic of UFO's is debatable some of the books out there make the topic seem like a dwelling place for kooks. This book sounds scientific enough to not scare off new readers but is a little dated for those in the know.

About the Author
Ernest Hemingway was born in Chicago in 1899, the second of six children. In 1917, he joined the Kansas City Star as a cub reporter. The following year, he volunteered as an ambulance driver on the Italian front, where he was badly wounded but decorated for his services. He returned to America in 1919, and married in 1921. In 1922 he reported on the Greco-Turkish war, then resigned from journalism to devote himself to fiction. He settled in Paris, associating with other expatriates like Ezra Pound and Gertrude Stein. He was passionately involved with bullfighting, big-game hunting and deep-sea fishing. His direct and deceptively simple style spawned generations of imitators but no equals. He was awarded the Nobel Prize for Literature in 1954, and died in 1961.

Child Safety and the Criminal Mind: Powerful read on bringing awareness to all

Over the course of nearly 500 pages, this writer delivered a purposeful and mindful read on the power of "stranger danger," and what it means to be a person of awareness in regards to the dangers of misleading situations.
The author has brought to light in a two-sectioned text, on how to inform your child on becoming aware of his/her instincts, and to be cautious at all costs. The second part of this read is delicately told of three short stories. These three short stoires were dteailed in how "Polly," a young girl, grew into a strong and determined charcter. A child of whom was aware of her surroundings and took matters into her hands. When it came to diffiuclt or fangerous situations, her ability to protect herself became well known.
The author is a profound writer. Mr. Legare carefully delivered a book of many self-protection strategies,which brings awareness to children and parents of all ages.
This is an intelligent read. One in which I encourage other viewers to partake in. This story will not only enlighten you, but empower you to be a stronegr and wiser person prior to reading.
Not only is the content well prepared, but the way the author has expressed his concerns throughout the book was enticing. It seems that this knowledge of "stranger danger," and self-protection is not only learned from research, but also from personal expereince.
I rate this book with five stars.. It is the most intelligent read I have came across in recent years.

For one of my graduate classes (MS in Education), I got to choose one of my textbooks from a long list of books about inquiry or critical literacy in the classroom. Three of us chose What If and Why? and made a little study group. We all agreed that this book is wonderful! It is really refreshing to read. Unlike a lot of textbooks, it is written by a teacher for teachers. It can easily be read (and understood) in a few sittings. There are a lot of examples of invitations and the responses that students created. Some of the invitations include descriptions of how the students and/or teacher came up with the idea for the invitation. There are also ideas and example forms for ways students can reflect on their work and ways teachers can observe and evaluate students.

I cannot wait to try these out in my classroom! However, I have to caution teachers who work in conservative districts or schools with very strict, scripted programs. This book may not be for you! Make sure that critical literacy is valued in your school/district before you spend the money on this book. As long as you have support from those you work with, this book is a great choice for critical literacy.

If you like critical literacy . . . I have also heard fabulous things about L. Heffernan's Critical Literacy and the Writer's Workshop and V. Vasquez's Getting Beyond "I Like the Book". These three books were very popular with students in my graduate reading classes this term.

Too many mistakes

The text is poorly drafted. There are numerous typographical errors in the text. The sample statutes are out of date by several years. My instructor will be writing a letter to the authors concerning the numerous errors in the text. This is probably the worse legal casebook I have ever read.
